Common Question…

This question comes up almost every week so I am writing it on my blog.
Are the exercises in your shows and your Videos updated to today’s exercises?
Here’s my answer…
You have 640 muscles in your body (55 muscles in your face) They all need their share of work. The exercises in my video’s are as viable today as they were 50 years ago and will be 100 years from now.

I’m so inspired by Jack! I’m 62 and work out daily and have a question for Jack. For exercises like chest presses or bench presses, lat exercises, curls, and similar resistance exercises, how many sets of an exercise does Jack do, and how many repetitions per set?

I generally do one set of between 12 and 20 reps, but I still get an occasional strained muscle, especially if I skip a day.

    Thanks!

    Dear Jack,
I see that I am not alone I am writing to you because of my childhood experiences of your show – I was one of those kids you sent off to find mother :)
I see you have the first 6 weeks of your show on this website and I wonder if there are any plans to post any more episodes. The exercises and nutritional ideas you presented were ahead of the trends of the time and very instructive for today. I would like to continue to work out with you via the web.
Is it possible to post some more?
    Blessings to you all,
    Suzanne

    Hi Jack,
I just watched and followed one of your old videos. You are an inspiration and a joy to watch. I hope by keeping up with your methods of fitness I can alleviate some of the stiffness in my legs and knee pain. Thanks Jack

Is it true that Jack and his wife are happy and healthy in the SF Bay Area?
I live in Menlo Park,CA and work in Burlingame…..and remember his early shows when I was a kid in the 50s and 60s, a great inspiration and a trail blazer for health and fitness.

  5. Mario Strong says:

As a youngster during the early 1960s, I would watch a fellow that wore a fitted jumpsuit, and who occasionally was accompanied by his wife and dog. During the daily morning program, he would jump up and down while inhaling and exhaling to musical sounds. This person intrigued me and every morning I would join my mother in performing the exercises that this fitness buff was demonstrating. Each morning before school, I would get a couple of chairs and place them in front of the black and white television set in the living room. When the show began, we were ready to perform the various exercises exactly as directed by this robust individual. For me, it was my first attempt at any form of proper exercise. I was just a kid and the only exercise I ever got was playing ball or running from my father when I did something wrong. However, this man made me curious and I began asking myself what this exercise stuff was all about. He always seemed cheerful, vibrant, and full of life. This is something that I also wanted to possess and as the years passed, the seeds of fitness he planted inside of me grew into a strong oak tree that still flourishes today. More than a half century after this natural for life bodybuilder first became a household name, Jack LaLanne, is still going strong as he and his wife, Elaine, continue to inspire millions of people worldwide as to the benefits of proper exercise, nutrition, and good, clean living.

    Jack,
What is your opinion on taking organic apple cider vinegar mixed with water daily?
Is this a healthy thing to do?
    Bob

  7. Claire says:

    Bob,

Each individual has their own eating regimen. It is not something Jack does every day, but if it works for you, it works for you. Be sure to check with your doctor, to see if it works for you.

    Thanks,
    Healthfully,
    Claire

  8. Claire says:

    Roger,

Elaine and Jack are happily settled in Central California.

    Keep on keeping on,

    Suzanne,

We are currently re doing our website, and yes we do have plans to post more shows in the near future.
Look for them in early 2010.
    Thanks,
    Claire

  10. Claire says:

    Dave,

Jack works out two hours every day and changes his routine every thirty days. This gives Jack the most benefits from his workouts. That is not to say that this workout routine is for everyone. Remember, Jack was a professional body builder and knows his body’s tolerance for exercise. If you are not sure on what to do, we recommend hiring a certified personal trainer to get some professional advice and monitor your body’s tolerance for the types of exercises you are doing, and always remember to check with your doctor before starting any exercise routine.

    Thanks,
    Claire

  11. Claire says:

    Ruth,

As Jack always says, “Exercise is King, Nutrition is Queen, Put them Together and you’ve got a Kingdom!” Jack recomends changing your routine every 30 days, because your muscles get used to the same routine. Jack recomends staying under 1500 calories and you will lose weight.

    Keep up your workouts!
    Claire

  12. Claire says:

    Ken,

At this time Jack is not scheduled to speak near Georgia. But you can check up on our website to see if anything gets planned!

    Thanks,
    Claire

  14. Claire says:

    Lisa,

By all means, see a doctor and get their advice. Jack changes his workouts every 30 days, because your muscles get used to the same thing. Hiring a personal trainer is a great idea, to learn the correct way to exercise!

    Keep at it,
    Claire

I would like to meet the legend. I know you don’t normally take time to meet random people, but I wish to say “please meet me for coffee!” Thanks. Stay tough. -Robb

  24. Claire says:

    William,
Over the years Jack has done just about every type of exercise imaginable. Yes, at one point he did run, but only as part of a daily regular exercise schedule. Most of his schedule at that time consisted of weight lifting and swimming. However, he did run and ride a bicycle long distances. He stopped running and riding his bicycles after a unfortunate traffic accident, which took out his knees.

    Keep up your workouts!
    Claire

  25. Larry says:

  27. Deb says:

I just wanted to thank Jack for his years of inspiration. I was one of the little girls he inspired. I would try to get my Aunts, Uncles and my mother involved to no avail. But, he has inspired me to live a life of exercise. Those early seeds he planted have bloomed and I thank him for this gift. I am now 55 years old, in good health and I take no prescription meds. Thanks again Jack for inspiring little girls!!

  28. Colleen says:

Thank you, Deb, for writing. Jack appreciates you following him all these years! Check out Jack on Direct TV on Telos.

    Jack,

I am 60 years old. In my 20′s I worked for Jack La Lanne Health Clubs in Calif. I was the head instructor. I had my picture taken with you when I was about 22. I am sure you do not remember me, but I remember you. You have been my primary motivation for health and fitness, since that time. I would like to have my picture taken with you again. I live in Utah now, but can make the trip to California any time.

    What say ye?

Can you give your opinion on if Diabetes can actually be reversed by exercise? Some of the MDs now say it can be done; also Pre-Diabetes can be stopped by diet & exercise.
Please give us yor take on this issue.

  31. Claire says:

    Doug,
Jack’s schedule is extremely busy these days, it is really not possible at this time. But he really appreciates the effort that you are willing to put forth.
    keep up the good work!

    Claire

  32. Jan LaFata says:

I hope that this is not being to nosy but what was it that recently sidelined Jack and is he, or will he be able to return to his workouts? I imagine whatever it was, the fact that he was in such good shape overall helped him though it!

What is Jack’s belief on donating blood? I have heard that it is healthy for your body, but have also heard the opposite? Which is true? Thank you Jack. I’m glad to know that you are doing well. I was shocked though to hear that you were having heart valve surgery.
