IDEA® Health & Fitness Association to Honor P90X® Creator,
Tony Horton, with the Prestigious IDEA Jack LaLanne Award at
the 2016 IDEA World Convention

“There’s no question that Jack LaLanne was the inventor of modern fitness,” explains Horton. “He had a unique talent for taking difficult and intimidating exercises, used mostly by athletes, and making them user friendly, uncomplicated and straightforward for the common man or woman. He was the very first person to take exercise out of the gym and into the home through a new medium called television. I’ve been lucky and fortunate enough to be able to carry that torch, and so with great humility, I am honored and humbled to receive the 2016 IDEA Jack LaLanne Award.“Jack was always looking toward new and more effective ways to encourage everybody to exercise, and, in that regard, he was way ahead of his time. I’m flattered that Tony was inspired by Jack,” said Elaine LaLanne, president and chief executive officer of BeFit Enterprises and as well as the presenter of this year’s award. “Tony’s unique brand of muscle integration, combined with his explosive charisma, has engaged a whole new generation. I’m pleased to say that ‘way ahead of Jack’s time has finally arrived.’ I am looking forward to presenting Tony with this year’s IDEA Jack LaLanne Award.”

The IDEA Jack LaLanne Award was created in 2011 and was given posthumously to Jack LaLanne in its inaugural year. Previous recipients include actress Jane Fonda; Alberto “Beto” Perez, the creator of Zumba®; long-distance swimming champion Diana Nyad; and longtime broadcast journalist and
personal trainer Jenna Wolfe. The 2016 IDEA World Convention will take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles, California, July 13–17, 2016. Early-bird registration rates are available through June 3, 2016. Visit:
